They finished the procedure at 2:00pm or so, and about two hours later it started bleeding like crazy- the stitches popped out.

My dentists office is closed, so I called one by my house. he told me it's okay and just chomp on a tea bag for awhile to stop the bleeding, and ice my jaw...is this ok or do I need to get it restitched?
My dentist is unavailable and his answering service told me to go to the Emergency Room. I dont have insurance and cant afford a 500 ER bull if its going to be ok w/o stitches

Tea is good for promoting clotting for some reason. So yes, using a teabag to provide steady pressure is good. But by all means if it continues, call the surgeon's office again - they should have instructions for calling after hours if you have an emergency.

Otherwise call Dentist #1 in the morning.

Good luck!

BY LAW your dentist HAS to be available for emergencies, or have a stand-by dentist on call for just this reason! Call your dentist number again and listen to the message - there should be a number to call for after-hour emergencies. If not, then I would report him/her to the Dental board. The other dentist gave good advice, but it still doesn't change the fact that you should get back in to see your dentist.
