Ok, so I'm planning on working out again [lifting weights] I've been playing basketball a lot lately and the next level for me is to start lifting weights and getting my legs and arms and rest of my body in standard. Don't get confused, I am good at basketball and I can hop a little bit. Just trying to get a better game going.

Anyway, I'm only 17 and me and my mom are poor as is the rest of America, but the past month or so, we've been really tight on food - right to the extent where there is basically nothing to eat at all in the house. So because of this, I have started taking multivitamins daily so I can continue to get my vitamin intake and what not.

My question is, will not eating regularly affect my weight lifting process?

BQ 1) I also suffer from sleep insomnia and I dont get much sleep. What are the possible outcomes of not sleeping well and lifting weights

BQ 2) If I'm going for more of a muscle mass increase, how many sets and reps should I do for my upper body?

BQ 3) Will including a protein shake into my daily diet help make up anything for the fact that I don't get much food throughout the day?
