Would you consider spending on a bike path to be pork?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but bikes don't pollute. Riding bikes is a healthy activity. More people would commute on bikes, if it was possible to do so, without winding up as road kill. Why would John Boehner consider bike path construction to be pork barrel spending?

And bikes don't require the use of imported oil.
Are sidewalks pork?
And we all know that this stimulus is going to the states and local governments.
They don't create jobs? Do you mean I could just blink and a bike path would appear from no where?
How do income tax cuts help you when you don't have a job? And how does more spending on imported goods stimulate our economy?
wyldrf, I did a little research and did find some material concerning Portland's bike paths. I mean, what can I say. Anyone who doesn't understand that they're a good idea is obviously someone who is so stuck in an ideological rut that they can't think clearly.

I am a bike rider and sometime bike commuter. Bike paths are pork. However I think all new road construction, where possible should incorporate bike lanes to lessen oil dependency and encourage exercise and general health.

It really depends on where the path is going.

If it is safe and encourages people to bike to work, or to get more exercise (and who in the US can't say they need that), so be it.

I live in Portland OR, the most bicycle friendly city in the USA. Old rail lines have been turned into multi use trails as part of a trail network which get a lot of use, even during our wet and cold weather. Bicycle paths make bicycling safe, help cut down on congestion, and bicyclists don't pollute. Making bicycle paths part of our infrastructure is a good idea. Republicans are against them because oil companies haven't figured out a way to make a profit off them.

Things such as bike paths should be a communities project with funding coming from the city not a federal project. That's my opinion anyway.
