I have a 93 Ford Crown Vic with a 4.6L engine DOHC (Dual Overhead Cam). My uncle bought the used car in February 2007 and never changed the oil. I had the oil changed a few days after he gave it to me on July 2008. My mechanic told me that the oil looked like sludge. He showed me the drain pan and it just looked like black syrup.

I've done 7 oil changes since I got it including the first change. Putting in 10W-30 the first change then 20W-50 4 times then 10W-40 and just last week 20W-50. All along I've been using two bottles of CD2 Oil Detergent after every oil change.

My point and question, the lifters still seem stuck. Clicking is most intensive on the passenger side near the front half of the motor. Driver side just seems to have a lighter click near the front half of the motor. I've heard about "Gunk Motor Flush" and Lucas as possible fixes. I don't want to do an all out repair getting all 16 lifters and the valve cover gaskets. I do work at Autozone and I do get discounts but the labor...

Is there a cheaper way? Any suggestions? I also read that 5W-20 might work also running diesel in replacement of oil "is a sure fix." What do you guys think?

By the way, the engine runs ok... besides the clicking. :)

You don't want to keep that thick oil in you motor, it's hard on you oil pump pl it want pump the oil through the motor right, you may blow it up by using that thick oil. I don't know if auto zone sells SEA-FOAM engine treatment , but O'reilly auto parts does, just add that to your oil for a while then replace the oil , it should help with that clicking noise. I've seen cars run for years with lifter noise.
