Good points far outweigh the bad. German build quality and strong residuals are a massive plus point with a Golf due to brand loyalty and the Golf being a car with a massive following. They are probably the best medium hatchback out there. The switches and stalks all feel nicely damped and the overall feeling of quality is superior to other brands. As for bad points, i suppose they are heavier than some of the contenders which makes the performance a little slower and the mpg a little higher than an equivalent French (for arguments sake) car, but that's a small price to pay for the reassurance of quality engineering. You may not get quite as many gadgets for your money but that only bothers people who love gadgets anyway. Parts prices will be a little steep but keep to genuine VW parts and they will last a long time. If i was after a medium hatch a Golf would be very high on my list along with their sisters the Skoda and the Seat. Good luck and enjoy the car.
