yes seems so. Gas only has a shelf life of 3-4 months before it breaks down and if you did not drain the carb it could of gotten gummed up.Also change the spark plug or plugs.

carb rebuild, fluid changes, spark check, and check that the pistols arent seized.

Hey people,
I'm back for more advice about basically the same problem. I have a 1975 Honda CB550 that's been sitting for a year. There was some gas in the tank & carbs when it was parked, but it ran just fine when it was put away a year ago. Now it will run only at high revs and won't idle - as soon as you let off the throttle the engine immediately dies.
I'm wondering, since it's only been sitting for a year, could this be stale/expired gas, maybe some carbon or gummy gas in the carbs, and I could just run some new gas with a can of Sea Foam through the tank and it would fix this problem, or does sitting for a year require full-scale carb rebuilds with new jets and floats and everything?
Of course, I am planning on changing the oil and gas before I try to run the engine again. I just need to know what to expect as far as carburettor rebuilds.

Thanks!
