Definition on my 480i TV? My TV does not have an HDMI outlet but the U verse box does, will I get a picture if I just hook the Blue ray disc player dircetly into the U verse box?

it wont be in hd 480i is standard def. if the tvs not hd it wont look any better

No. In the first place, the U-verse receiver has no input for that purpose. Secondly, there's no way you can display actual HD on a 480i TV, regardless of the input.

To get the most from a Blu-ray player, you really need a TV with a 1080p screen.

I think you've answered your own question:

"TV does not have an HDMI outlet but the U verse box does"

What you want, is a TV with HDMI INPUT, the fact that your U Verse OUTPUTS over HDMI is of no use to you.

All that being said, if you had a box that took an HDMI signal and out put over composite (yellow cable) that would still be 480i.

(it's the weakest link in the chain that counts!).

Last but not least the TV is 480i. It can't be made HD, no matter what signal you try to feed it.
