Can you recommend some free downloadable DVD-ripping software?

My DVDs are region 2, if that makes any difference. I want to be able to rip some DVDs to my hard drive. Thanks in advance.
For the benefit of Delores: it's not a problem I'm asking about. I would like to be recommended some good DVD-ripping software (i.e so that I can have copies of my DVDs saved to my hard drive, so that I don't have to lug all my DVDs around with me while travelling.) I would prefer it to be free software due to financial reasons, but if there is some relatively cheap software out there, I'd go for it.

JoelKatz - would you still be able to play the ripped version, though? I don't want to "do" anything with the movies other than watch them. Thanks for your answer.

Commercial DVDs are encrypted with CSS. Even if you ripped them, there would be nothing you could do with the rip because it would be encrypted.
