I'm lookin to update my home system, i think the base in my system is a bit lacking and wanted to update just this part. I was looking at home theatre system subwoofers but they also seem to be a bit lacking in power and are very expensive for what they are. I was wondering if you can use a car subwoofer in your own home theatre system to beef up the base. I was thinking like the Pioneer or Fusion units??? I personally am into dubstep so as you can tell my system is lacking in this department.

Can anyone give advice on: is this possible to even do? What are the best makes of car subwoofers? and what sort of prices will they be? I am also looking in the range of 300 - 500 watts.

Home and Car Audio have a different standards. You are not going to find many home theater subwoofer that are rated in the 300 to 500 watts, like a car subwoofer. Car audio are designed to operate in small place and is in the Direct Current (DC), while home audio for larger rooms and is in the Alternating Current (AC). You can not mix the car audio with home audio. You can burn out your power amplifier or receiver if you connect a car subwoofer to it. By the time you get a car subwoofer along with a box to mount them and an amplifier along with a DC adapter your cost will be higher than buying a powered subwoofer for home use. Hope this will help you out.
