Can you use a regular bluetooth headset for a mic on PS3?

I tried going to Settings>Accessories>Manage Bluetooth Devices and I pressed okay to scan but the screen just says "scanning... Please wait" It's been like that for a while. What am I doing wrong? I just used a regular headset like it says you're able to but it will not sync or connect with the PS3. What do I do?
 
it should work make sure you follow the directions. on the one i have you have to hold down the power button on the headset for 8 seconds and then start scanning.
