I know little to nothing about sound systems, but recently i test drove a car that had 2 12" MTX subs and a 1200 watt amp, which made me want to get a nicer sound system for my car. I want it to have bass that will shake my back seats, and still sound pretty good. I dont want it to sound like garbage and rattle a lot. My question is what would be a good setup for me? I drive an 02 volvo s40
ps i dont wanna spend more than 600 dollars, i like reggae, rap, and some alternative but i want to make sure that it will have plenty of bass

Thing to know about people who think they know car audio: They are crap! Look man try a brand named Quantum. Their cosmic series is top of the line for them. a 12 runs about 100 each and the 2000watt amp is around 300. I personally had 3000 watts continuous on two of their tens and never had a problem. They are by far the best for the money. If you come up with three grand to spend go MEMPHIS.

02 volvo s40 1.9L turbo probably around an 85 amp alternator so your good up to around 900 watts RMS
I need to know your music style and pricerange to suggest
Thing to know about car audio: You get what you pay for if its cheap you can safely assume is crap.
EDIT:
Can you please email me? so we can chat about a perfect setup for you?
yes thats a good point J beacuse you just suggested a cheap brand with low sound quality, addint the fact you said that you were running 3k continuous off of 1 and 3k watts is where the voice coil will just melt and fry no questions asked.
