I purchased a blue ray player with built in wifi so I can watch movies on my tv with my netflix account. During the set up it kept mentioning the router. I know nothing when it comes to computers so I don't really even know what a router is. Is this something I need in order for this to work?

You will learn about this issue by going back to wherever you bought the blue-ray player. Ask for the wireless adapter for your computer's router.

You need the internet in order to watch the Netflix movies. I assume since you are on the internet to ask this, you have internet service at your house. You will need DSL (Verizon etc.) or cable internet (Roadrunner etc.) to have a good enough connection for Netflix streaming. If your computer is hard wired to your router (that's the box you get from your internet provider), then you need to get a wireless router also. The wifi router plugs into your router/modem. Just go into Radio Shack or Best Buy etc., they'll sell you what you need. If you just have a dial up connection, you are out of luck.
