do playing ps1 games on ps3 ruin the blue ray?

I heard from a friend (like everyone else) that the ps3 does play ps1 one but it ruins your blue ray or something so i need some confirmation here please
 
yes , ALL playstation 3 consoles play ps1 games
no , it can't damage the blu-ray lens to play a ps1 disc . it's just a cd format disc .
the only way it would cause harm is if you use dirty discs . dirt can transfer to moving parts and cause damage .
they wouldn't make a ps3 that would be damaged from using it for it's intended purposes .
 
1. Not all PS3's can play old games.
2. How do you hurt a light/laser? There isn't anything physically touching, so how do you hurt it?
