I have a ps2 and am thinking of buying a ps3. with the latter, can i still play PS2 and ps1 games on the ps3? and what about the memory card's compatibility? I have mem car for ps1 and another for ps2. will I be able to insert either into ps3 and load my previously saved games?
Thanks

The newer PS3s are not backward compatible. You can't play PS2 games on them.

For the original PS3 you could by a memory card adapter that would let you load and save games.

Sorry but I have only bad news for you.

If you buy a brand new PS3, you will NOT be able to play PS2 games and you definitely can NOT use PS1/PS2 memory cards.

Only certain ps3's are backwards compatible. Meaning you can play ps2 games on them. I recently bought a ps3 and searched a lot of places just to come across one that is backwards compatible. I looked for used ones at gamestop. One store told me I should try ebay but I didn't want to over pay for it. They also told me to make sure that it is backwards compatible it has to be an 80g with 4 usb ports or a 60g. I got the 80g with 4 usb ports. It does not have a card slot for memory cards though there might be an adapter. But it does make room on its hard drive so you can save ps1 and ps2 games.
