I am running Windows Xp and my dvd drive is a Sony Optiarc AD-5170A.

The system will not recognise that a DVD ROM is inserted, it just opens a blank folder or says 'insert disk'

The drive plays DVD movies and runs CD's fine. I can also write to CD and DVDs - its only DVD ROMs that wont work.

I'm trying to run a copy of Civilisation iv - which works on other PCs and the disk is in PERFECT condidtion.

Anyone know why my system wont run the disk? Anyone had similar or know of a fix?

I have SP3 and all current drivers etc. I have tried to upgrade the firmware on the Sony drive but it wont work HOWEVER - I don't think this is the issue as it still should work fine.

PLEASE HELP

I tried surfing for an answer. Came across something I never heard of, something called country code for the dvd drive?
