Fitness question for unfit 21 year old guy.?

hello all,

When i was younger, i used to play many sports, and would generally be outside running around for entire afternoons. however, when i turned 16, i started to concentrate on my studies, and now, 5 years later, it's still the same. Because i spend alot of my time sitting at a desk, and i'm talking about 8+ hours a day, i have of course, become quite unfit.

When i was younger, i was popular-ish in school for being a very good and quick sprinter, and i would be an okish long distance runner though nothing special. Usually did well in the 400m or 800m. I also played football etc.

Now, although i have retained most of my speed, i cant run around as much as before. i get tired very quicky, and it takes ALOT longer to recover...which is obvious i know. i've also been eating a lot of junk food over the past few years and my diet is quite poor...because i'm south asian and our diet consists mainly of curries. My stomach has expanded into a terrible ugly thing, whereas before it was completely flat.

My question is, as i've decided enough is enough, how do i go about trying to get back to the level of fitness i was in before, but mainly, i want to have a flat, toned stomach, so what's the best way, in your opinion, to achieve this?

i'm 5 foot 8 and weigh 11 stones
