Good fast paced, futuristic, Sci-Fi books. Please Help?

I've been looking for a sci-fi book that is fast paced, set in the future, good story, and has lots of action. I'm really picky when it comes to books, i don't know why. It kinda sucks, but i cant help it :/ The main character must be male, must NOT be a child (Enders Game had me going for a bit, then i found out that he was 6.... kinda ruined it for me) and the book has to catch my attention quickly, so it has to be fast paced, with a decent amount of action in it. Oh, and a good story. Please help :)

And please no Halo.

I recommend Miles Vorksagian books by Lois Bujold. She has won several Hugos. You might look over some of the books from the Baen Free Library. They generally have the first one in the series for free.

Philip K. Dick has written some good, short sci fi, like Paycheck and Minority Report. And Michael Crichton's Prey and Jurassic Park.
