i purchased a home theater in a box system few years ago and it now has stopped functioning. i reparied it many times ..and after spending $50-$70 each time i dont think its worth it anymore. the model is DAV-DZ120K and the manual Is here

what can i do now ?

1. can i connect it with a new dvd player

2. can i buy a multimedia player and connect it to the TV instead (external harddrive kinda thing as i usually download movies). can someone check if my dvd player has an optical audio cable input..i am really dumb at this. i would love to have surround sound.

3. can i a buy a new receiver / amplifier to it and retain my old speakers ?

i really cant afford an entirely new system right now and need alternatives..

I would recommend this http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-HT-S3400-Channel-Theater-Receiver/dp/B004O0TRDI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1314906773&sr=8-1 It is a 5.1 receiver and a set of speakers then down the road you can upgrade the speakers if you like. You can then add a http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-DMP-BDT210-Integrated-Wi-Fi-Blu-ray-Player/dp/B004G8HXXO/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1314906905&sr=1-2 Nice blu ray player for a total of about 500. Those HTIB speakers may or may not work with a new receiver, 1, they are cheap 2, they are more than likely to be different Ohms, and most likely not compatible with a new receiver
