How can I tell if my 1997 nissan maxima has a non- locking /locking differential?

I am assuming your car is an automatic transmission. ALmost all 1997 were non locking the trans number is on the drivers side Vin# tag non locking trans # RE4F04A The trans with viscus locking differential is #REFO4V mostly on SE and LE models Good Luck

just remove old axle first and take it with you so you can match them up there easy job really andreally just as well to get a whole axle less work sometimes
