How do I convince my parents to get me a cellphone?

I am 13 and phoneless. I am asked everyday by friends at my school if or when I'm getting a cell phone. Since I'm literally one of the only kids in my grade that don't have a cell phone. So far, my mother has told me she will give me one at 16. My dad says if he had the money he'd get me one right away (but my mom certainly won't agree with him. They're separated).

I have fair grades. A + B average. I have 3 Advanced classes. Advanced Science, Advanced Language Arts English and Advanced Language Arts Writing.

I am a constant Movie Go-er, I go to movies all the time with a couple of friends, and always need a cell phone to call my mom to tell her to pick me up. This gets annoying for her even, because she has to give me HER cell phone and she is phoneless for as long as I am at the movies. I told her this as an excuse, but for some reason she didn't budge.

Another reason I think is because I am also a mall rat, and have to borrow cell phone, same issue as going to the movies.

Plus, I am probably one of the most social people you'll ever meet. Right now, I rely on Myspace and Facebook, but even some of my closest friends don't have them (because they don't, or because parents don't want them), and most distant friends. Like I said, I'm one of the only people in my grade without a cell phone, so I could easily talk to ALL my friends, since literally everyone I know has a cell phone. But not any of them rely on Facebook or Myspace like I do.

well i dont see the problem if you borrow a friend's cell phone to call your mom. i dont think kids your age should have cell phones. seriously they arn't that great and it actually weakens your social skills. granted i had a cell phone at 13 because i went to school 15 miles away from my house and was in sports so it was difficult to know exactly when i would be out of practice and such. perhaps you can convince your mom to get you one those pay as you go phones that only allow you to call your parents... or get a paper route and pay for it yourself. good luck truly.

You should ask your parents if you can get a Go Phone for now. You wont have to pay as much because you only have to pay for when you are using it. If you also want to get texting then you should ask if you can start with a little amount such as 20 or 30 texts a month. Your parents might like how that goes and then they might advance it. But if not then at lease you might have a phone for now. When they get more money they might buy you a better phone once this contract expires.

YEAH NONE OF THAT SHlT MATTERS U WANT UR PARENTS TO SPRING FOR A PHONE HERE'S WHAT YOU DO. STAY OUT LATE ONE NIGHT AND I MEAN REAL LATE. TEAR YOUR CLOTHES A LITTLE AND SAY YOU GOT MUGGED AND SINCE YOU DIDNT HAVE A PHONE THERE WAS NO WAY TO CALL FOR HELP. IF THAT DOESN'T DO IT THEN FORGET THE PHONE YOU NEED NEW PARENTS!

i understand where both of ur parents r coming from.. (i think!)
yo moms don't want to get u a phone because believe it or not they r big distractions. i am 18 and every day my teacher tells me to stop texting.. and not to mention the phone bills.. 1 piece of advice that i can give u is if u or when u do get a phone keep tabs on your minutes or plan. if u go over u can kiss it goodbye... and u r only 13.. if they get u a new phone 9 out of 10 time someone might try to steel it from u.. i have had my stolen, dropped and flat out lost my phone. i have had a phone since i was round your age and throughout that time i have probably had over 20 phones.. that's a lot.. my phone got stolen from school last year and the store wanted me to pay 400 because i waited to long to report it missing. so when u get a phone u also get a lot of responsibility.
