How do i fix an Action replay ds (already has firmware 1.71) with white screen?

My son's action replay has the white screen that comes up when starting it. After the DS turns on it shows warning screen and instead of loading the action replay it goes white. This happened some time after after he downloaded the firmware 1.71 so it already has latest firmware and white screen. Thanks for the help.
 
When the ds is turned off hold a+b then power on still holding a and b then As soon as the Nintendo screen is displayed, before our screen stating this product is not endorsed by Nintendo, press and hold Start and Select while keeping hold of A+B This will delete everything so you have to connect the action replay to the computer to get codes again
