How do I retrieve text messages from my broken cell phone?

It is broken in half and the screen is completely disconnected, so I can't send them to my email address. I was wondering if there was any way I could connect a USB port or something similar to the computer to recover the texts in the inbox. Please help! Thanks.
 
My t-mobile cell phone fell and it does not turn on and would like to know how can I retreive the old text messages that were not saved on the SIM card
