Christianity caused murders is a result of "religion". Religion has no excuse for something out of the bible, out of church, out of context.
When Catholicism killed witches they did so out of religion, not relationship with Christ. If someone were filled with the Holy Spirit and knew that their own sin meant death, just like the witchcraft practitioner, they would instead thank God for salvation and hope that the witch found what they had found.
We have all sinned and our own price has been paid by Christ up on that cross in front of us. We cannot hold our fellow human being accountable for transgressions here on earth because of what Christ did for us then.

Yes, "Christians" have committed atrocities against other religious and non-religious people. However, atheists have committed far more atrocities than all religious groups combined. Even so, the key factor in these atrocities has been totalitarian power, rather than religion, which has resulted in these hundreds of millions of murders. You do not and cannot discourage because the whole thing has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with who we are. And we all follow an evolutionary imperative. If you do not "fight" you do not survive. This is true all the way down to the gene level.
