How do you get out of a parking spot without hitting the car on the side of you?

I'm just learning how to drive and I always have problems backing up out of a parking spot. Everytime I go in reverse the front of my car always seems to hit the car on the side of me bumper. People tell me to keep the wheel straight but I have the wheel straight. Can someone help me please
 
your car may be out of allignment, in which case the having wheel straight means your car will drift to the left or right. start reverse looking forward and inch out making sure your backing up straight
