How far can an Xbox 360 wireless network adapter reach?

I want 2 know if anyone has their adapter connected to their wireless modems that are over 20 metres away. How often would you lose connection playing games? I'm going to buy one and it the signal has to go through a couch, out the window and through another brick wall.
 
I think that you're connection will be really bad as their are a number of thick objects between the modem and adapter.
