The speakers of my Samsung home theater system are connected to a central DVD/audio controller device. This device is then connected to my HDTV via an HDMI cable.

According to the instructions manuals, if I want to connect my new Blu-Ray player (or Xbox 360) to the system, my best/only option is to connect the Blu-Ray player to the HDTV using HDMI for video, then connect audio from the Blu-Ray player to the DVD/audio controller device using either optical digital audio cable or analog cables.

However, with this setup, audio from the Blu-Ray player will not reach the speakers in HDMI format, which I understand is superior to even optical digital audio, as it supports new formats not available to the latter.

Is there a "central router" type device that can solve this problem, allowing me to send HDMI-quality sound from my Blu-Ray player to the speakers short of buying a new audio system?
