Im looking at 2 different models of blue ray players and the more expensive one is WiFi ready (whatever that means) but it says dongle NOT included. do i need a dongle? what does a dongle even do? HELP

A dongle is a small piece of hardware that connects to a device (laptop, dvd player, etc.) which will allow the player to communicate with your wireless computer network.

quick answer: no
the dongle allows your player to get updates off the internet through your wireless home network.

if you do not have a home network hooked up to a broadband connection then you do not need to worry about this at all.

make sure that you have an ethernet port on your blu-ray player then:
i would suggest having a wired connection to your network. it will be much cheaper and its not very hard to route wires through your house. you can get ethernet cables for very cheap.

heres a good site for home theater and ethernet cables:
