Im jus wondering if my ipod is broken?

my ipod wont change screens or anything is jus say ok to disconnect then when i hold menu n the middle button it changes then restore but when i plug it my ipod neva connect in so i can restore so do you think i should buy another one or take it to a shop it keeps freezing up and stuff like that when it did work.
 
Did you try resetting it? You can reset it by holding down the middle button and the pause button at the same time.
