i'm new to windows (mac user) what dvd burning compression software do I use.?

i love my mac but she's in the shop. I ran out and bought a toshiba to get me by. how do I burn a regular talent show dvd. do I compress and use whats installed with this machine. in mac i would use mac the ripper and then toast. but i'm at a loss with this.
