This sub is a 21 inch 200lb powered sub rated at 1400 watts rms 2400 peak. I am looking for a sub that is loud and will shake the room. I was uncertain if it will still have a good sound quality or if a 21 inch driver will be sloppy. I really enjoy rap, rock, country, and movies. I am returning a Polk Audio micro pro 4000 because it was not powerful enough for what I was wanting. The polk hit good lows but had almost no mid tones which was rather disapointing to me. Please give me any other recomendations or opinions on this matter thanks.

Cerwin Vega are not a very good speaker. There are not many subwoofer that are rated more than 300 watts. If you want that much power you are going to have to pay for it. Look at the DJ or commercial use, like a JBL subwoofer with a dual 15" but they are only rated at 500 watts. Keep in mind that all sub woofer only handle 150HZ and below, You also need a high rated power amp to push those speakers. Hope this will help you out.

Jake - That is a professional grade sub that a DJ would use. It will work great for home theater, DJ'ing, a band or whatever. It is a bit overkill for home theater but if you adjust it right, it will rock the house. That speaker costs $1600 in the USA so it is not a toy and the power ratings can be trusted. It is a powered sub, so no amp is needed.

Cerwin Vega makes great pro audio speakers and their home speakers are not bad either. They are designed for rock and roll music.

If you have the money...go for it.

BBT91945, read the question, this is a POWERED sub. He won't need a separate amplifier for it. Read the question before you answer it.

You shouldn't expect a subwoofer to produce midrange tones. That is why it is called a SUBwoofer, it produces tones below what a standard woofer produces. It is impossible to know how to advise you when you give us no information about your other equipment. 21 inches is mighty large for home theater.
