Is Affirmative Action a good topic for me to argue/present in my AP English class?

Later in the year, everyone has to choose a debatable topic, and study it. Then we have to do a presentation, and our teacher will try and oppose/ go against our beliefs, and he will grade us on how well we defend our views, and whatever. (I'm against AA by the way) We will have to debate with him. I really want to do affirmative action but will that be an easy topic ? Like what would I say when he says, "what about diversity? " and whatnot. Thanks guys! Do you think I should choose a different topic ?

I wrote a paper on AA a few years ago.

To do well and defend your views you will really need to do some heavy research.

My Thesis was that AA was forming a new Unrecognized Minority, namely Middle Class White Males.

As far as Diversity, Why does the EEOC, who administers AA have a disportionate amount of "recognized minorities?"

I say go for it,but it is a sensitive subject and you had better know it inside and out to argue it effectively.

As a starting point, at the time I wrote the paper, we had approximately 300 million people living legally in the US, that number does not include Illegal immigrants.

Of them, 192 million of them are White.

Of those 98 million are female.

This leaves a minority of 94 million White Males who are not protected by AA.
The other 208 million people in the US are protected by AA.

For purposes of Race, ALL whites are counted together and so therefore Whites have no protection.
But as women, White women are protected.

This leaves White Males as a minority based on the accepted definition of a minority, but they receive NO protection from AA or the EEOC.

Start with that and tear it up.


I got the highest score on my paper in the course despite the fact that my instructor was a 30 year old female and a very strong advocate of AA.
