Is the PowerDVD software that comes with LG blu-ray players a trial version?

I bought the same blu-ray player and didn't have to pay anything. You need to upgrade PowerDVD from the CD that came along, but it never asked me to pay money.
 
First try and upgrade the firmaware for your blue ray drive at the link below. The drives need constant updating considering they are still working on the blue ray format to improve on it. Also, those types of sotwares will require frequent updates which makes you essentially buy the update. Good luck.

After a couple of months of working fine, the PowerDVD that came with my Blu-ray drive keeps telling me that I need to install updates to play the Blu-ray disk. It just brings me to a link to buy the newest version of PowerDVD. It has never shown me anything to say that it is a trial version, and the other software that came with the Blu-ray drive works fine. I now have no way to play my Blu-ray movies. Is there something that I can do to fix this problem or is the software just a trial and I'll need to buy a new version?
