Is this an interesting 6 page short story topic?

I'm about 3 pages in, and I just want to make sure this will be somewhat interesting. I'm writing from the point of view of a journal that an eleven year old girl named Jill keeps, and it tells about how the journal hates it's own selfishness in not wanting Jill to ever grow up. It tells about how Jill writes in the journal and goes into detail about a bunch of stuff. Then I was planning to have Jill write in the journal one night, then not come back for a while. But when she uses it again, the journal discovers that Jill has leukemia. Then it will have to live without Jill while she is dying. Anything you would suggest? I know, it's sad. I didn't want it to be this sad.
