License agreement for a dvd player in my laptop?

My roommate recently let me have a copy of a program with all our class notes and stuff on it that the school gave her after she graduated. But the thing is, it recently messed up the license agreement on my laptop to where I couldn't play dvd's on my laptop anymore. Now today, it's letting me play dvd's. Will it end up messing it up again or how does all that work out?
