Make a surround sound dvd disc?

i am looking on a way of making a dvd disc. i know already how to get my movies onto disc to play on my dvd player. (divx player) but i want to get alot more out of it so i was wondering if anyone knows how to make the movie surround sound. it doesnt matter what programs i will have to use. the files are avi and divx if that is any use to anyone.
