Me and my wife already have a family car, but i'm lookin for my first used bmw?

we alredy have a chevy suburban, and my wife said i could get my own personal car , i'm thinkin bmw but don't know the difference between 5 series and 3 series could you help me figure this out i want a cool looking car but also want power and convinience.
