My 2000 GMC Yukon with 150k miles on it is making a strange sound?

The sound is coming from the rear end of the vehicle and it seems to be doing it only in cold weather. (I live in Michigan). It sounds almost as if I am running over rumble strips. The odd thing is that it only does it for about 10 minutes of driving, then it goes away. And it does it periodically during that time. Like after I just take off, it will do it for like 2 seconds...than a minute later it will do it for about a 1/2 sec...and on and on for 10 or so minutes. But again..it almost sounds exactly like I am running over rumble strips.
And ideas?
I know it's not tires nor brakes. Those r good to go. And I often wondered about it being a bearing or anxle joint but the sound is nothing like clunking nor gears grinding.

Start out cheap, check your brakes first you got alot of miles and their more than likely original. After that check tires, wheels, and then get you rear end checked out. Good Luck!
