My car made a whining sound near the alternator and belt area, now it died and

won't restart? It died while the car was running. Battery is good, alternator is good. Tried starting the car and nothing happens, even tried jump starting it but that wasn't the problem. My timing belt is brand new. What could have caused the problem?
1994 Chevy Corsica 3.1L V6

Heard a pop by the belt area. Timing chain maybe?
 
Not enough information to help you. What type of car. Was the alt overly hot, if you know. Does it crank and turn over or click? Does the horn honk?

How do you know the alt is good? Could the water pump have seized? Check the electrical system. Is it getting spark? Are the spark plug wires in good condition and firmly attached? There are many possibilities.
