My LG Plasma TV is Showing Black Smears and Bad Color?

I have an LG 42" plasma tv (model: 42pc1da) and I am having a major picture problem with it. Last night, while watching the television, I heard an audible "pop" and the picture started to dim. I turned the tv off and back on to see if it would solve the problem, but now my picture is terrible. When I turn it on, I have black smears spread across the whole screen. They slowly start to fade away and after about 5 minutes, they are completely gone. However, even without the smears, the picture is off-color. The tv only shows red and green color and it seems to be swirling around inside of the tv.

I opened the back to check to see if it is a capacitor issue. It doesn't seem to be. Now I have no idea where to go with repairing it.

Find a professional in the yellow pages. It does sound like it may have been a capacitor and you may not have recognized the defect. These types of problems are best diagnosed and repaired by qualified personnel.
