Netgear Wireless Internet Router Not Working?

My parents and I have a netgear 802.11g wireless router purchased from Best Buy and from the moment we got it home we did not have wireless internet as it said we would. We have a Dynex "Wireless G" USB thing that goes into my laptop, but that doesn't even work. The connection is fine when it's plugged in and our router stays on all the time. How can I fix this? Or was it like I told my stepdad and won't work because it's a cheap router?
 
I had Netgear, you have to go to http://192.168.1.1

You have to allow the computer to use the router. It is very hard to do, so thats why I scrapped my Netgear and bought a Linksys for $30
