When you get a new phone from ATT, do you have to change plans?

'Cause my mom bought her a new phone, me, bro, and my dad a new phone from ATT for the first time from ATT, and it cost like $400 (without phone cost) So, I was wondering if I wanted to get a NEW phone from att, do we have to pay for the plans again? OR just the phone price?
Thanks in advance:) Srry if this doesn't make sense!

If your contract has finally expired (usually after 2 years from when you first bought the plan), you can sign another one and get a phone really cheap. You can still sign up for the same plan if they still offer it, or you can choose a different plan. If you don't wish to sign another contract, you can stick with the plan you've got, but the phone will be very expensive. Usually when phones are advertised, the price they list includes signing a 2-year contract.

If your contract has not expired, you must pay the 'expensive' price to get a new phone, and you will still have the same plan.
Make sense?
