I recently replaced my aging Toshiba progressive scan DVD player with an Onkyo DV-SP406 upscaling unit. I have it connected to a Sony Wega KV-30HS510 1080i HDTV CRT display.

I've noticed that with the DVD-R's I have, and with a couple of lesser known DVD companies, DVD's of 4:3 shows/movies are slightly stretched left to right (not across the entire screen) if displayed at any setting higher than 480p.

Has anyone else had this problem? Does this just mean that the upscaling unit can't upscale these particular discs?
Wow...out of two messages received so far...they both are irrelevent. Don't these people read the question?

Up scaling dvd are not very good compare to the blu ray player up-scaling. Keep in mind that if they are old movies they might be in the 280P and is up scaled to 480P. Open your owners manual and it will provide you a menu on up scaling, which could be a manual operation and not automatic. Hope this will help you out.
