Should I purchase a "regular" dvd for a TV show from 2002 vs. Blu-ray dvd?

I'm about to purchase a boxed set of Firefly-Complete Series (A tv show from 2002 or so). The regular DVD set is much less expensive than the Blu-ray version. (I have a Blu-ray player).
I read that Blu-ray players can improve the quality if you opt to use a regular dvd - but since this show is from awhile ago, I don't know if the year it is from is an issue as far as clarity. Thanks very much.

This is a review from bluray.com. Some bluray disc specially early ones would not be much of an improvement. It does not seem to be the case with this series.
"In comparing the Blu-ray version to "Firefly" on DVD, this set offers a clear upgrade over the blurred and displeasing standard definition image. Sharpness, detail and color reproduction are vastly superior while helping to preserve the film-like look that the show aspired to. "Firefly" on Blu-ray is clearly the best that this show will ever look. Recommended."

The process you describe to improve dvd quality is call upconversion. It is not the same quality as it is not the native resolution of the HDTV. Some people claim that there is no difference but in a side by side comparison is pretty obvious
