what is the normal divx dvd player format?

What format and resolution do i need to convert my mkv file to i have a dvd player it has a hdmi plug so i should be able to watch it in 1080p but i am not sure wether it will work or not. So i need to know the format and resolution i need to convert it to?

AVS Video Converter is what you need to convert from mkv to any video format. avi. is most common and you don't really need to worry about the resolution since it will be done automatically unless you want the manual option.
