What is up with the stereotype that all famous people are stupid?

I have never understood that. I mean sure there's celebrities like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, but that doesn't mean that all celebrities are stupid.

Do they seem like dumb people? In fact, I think they need at least some bit of intelligence in order to have been so successful in their careers.

Sorry for the rant, it's just that people at my school were talking about how half-witted, stupefied, nonsensical, and simpleminded all celebrities are. I found that stereotype to be so inaccurate and when I offered my opinion, they just laughed at my "stupidity" for not agreeing. Also, it's not just people at my school - people on the internet, people everywhere have bluntly stated how all celebrities are stupid. It just bothers me how they don't have any evidence to back up their claims. And when they do try to back up their statement with some kind of argument, they usually state a certain celebrities use of drugs. Everyone makes mistakes. It may not have been the wisest decision, but that one mistake doesn't necessarily make that person stupid. A relative of mine believed in living life to the fullest because everyone dies at one point and you never know when. Participating in drug use was one way she did that because she liked how they made her feel. This in no way made her stupid, in my opinion. In fact, she got straight A's in all her academics, was captain of the volleyball team, and was an excellent writer.

What do you guys think?
 
I think people are too harsh on them. Theres plenty of people out there who are like Britney or Madonna,and that doesnt mean they are stupid.
 
I completely agree with you. I will never understand why so many people think this. My opinion is that they want to boost their egos by priding themselves in thinking that they are more intelligent than most celebrities. I also agree with you on the drug abuse matter. Thank you for linking to us those videos. The Marilyn Manson interview and essay, in particular, piqued my interest. He is a very good example. Most people think that he is dim-witted because of the way he dresses, but the fact is, he is very intelligent and opinionated.

because is she giving you something to eat, no, there's someone breaking a sweat coming out with ways to keep our crops from dying. When you're sick does hearing modanna heal you, no someone is out there looking for ways to treat diseases. is she CEO, CFO, of an enterprise keeping the economy growing, no she's lumpenproletariat who's being used by high level excutives to keep you stupid and getting your hard earn money
