I am a professional who works for one of the largest energy firms in Texas. I make really good money, nearly six figures. Most of my associates drive new cars that cost around $45-65k. We all park in the company garage, and only a select group to park in there. I spent $1k on my car on a whelm because I wanted to drive the legend of Volvo.
I get a lot of stares when I am driving into the garage, I had the security guards chase me once because they thought I was one of the regular employees, as we hired on about 150 customer service people about the time I bought my car.
None of my associates never say a thing about my car, but no one wants me to take my car when we go to lunch, and I offer all the time. I call my car old school, and I have put about $2k into parts to make my little 240 to look new and fancy for all it's worth.
Then comes my boss. He has given me two pay promotions this year, out of the blue.
I sometimes laugh at the whole thing, and think about going out and buying something fairly reasonable to commute in, but the old Volvo is holding up, dependable, good gas mileage and she has never stranded me yet.
What would think if you saw a guy like me, in a good position in life, with a little old Volvo?
BTW, this is not a hoax question. I have a couple of vehicles at home I never take to work because they don't fix in the garage, plus they are expensive to fuel.
