A little info: He already has a DS and I don't think he would want to downgrade to a gameboy. I asked him if he wanted a ps2 and he said no but he kind of wants a psp, I'm not sure though if a psp is appropriate for his age. So any suggestions

Kids learn to handle computers really quickly. I think a psp would be ideal. Both my kids have them and they love them. The graphics are good and you can choose age appropriate games.

Many games for PSP are for older audiences. However my brother (of a similar age) has a wii which he goes on regularly. He plays all the lego games (eg. lego harry potter) He's really into that sort of thing and they're pretty cheap for what they are so maybe a future christmas or birthday present for him ?

Nowadays kids catch on to computers & games way faster than when we were kids. I wouldnt hesitate getting a PS3 for him, but the PS2 & PSP are dead systems. Sony has or will have a PSP replacement soon. The reason I say a PS3 is because its an entertainment system for the whole family. It plays Blu Ray discs, games, can go online, & if you have Netflix you can stream movies with it. Its a do all device that you can get use out of too. If hes stuck on a handheld theres a newer version of the DS called the 3DS. Or you can look for the new Sony handheld. I really dont know if theyve released it yet though, it may be next xmas. I will say this though, even though 6 year olds know how to use these fancy electronics they dont always take good care of them. They forget them when they set em down, they toss em on the floor to get stepped on. So if you invest in an expensive thing you need to monitor its use & really teach him to respect it.
