if you are putting something into the drive like a usb pen or a portable hard drive and then it dissapears this is down to it taking the same drive letter as the dvd player to change this if you go into

Start - Control Panel - Administrive tools - select computer management select disk management and then see if your dvd player is still there if so right click on the dvd player it will say CD ROM drive
right click and change drive letter to something else

see if this fixes the problem

i experienced that too. first, check the connections of its power supply. 2nd, check the IDE or SATA connection of the drive. disconnect external fans for the CPU as they consume more power thereby decreasing the levels of current for the HDDs and DVDDs. Restart your computer. if this does not work, something is wrong with the drive. good luck!
