Why do people drive pickup trucks for regular daily drivers?

I always see people driving around in pickup trucks all the time, and lots of them have loud exhausts, and usually have lift kits on them. Both the full sized ones and the smaller s10 and ranger type ones. Why do people drive them, when they could get a car and get 20mpg more?

because they need the storage in the back for work, like construction or for recreation like biking and other sports and other cars cant hold that much stuff because they have roofs to limit how much can fit in the car, or they think that it looks cool

I know, it's quite funny to see a bunch of full size pickups driving around and rarely hauling anything. If you insist on driving a V8 gas hog vehicle at least get something fun and cool like a muscle car. The smaller trucks like S10's and Rangers are about the same as a little car and some have 4cyls, so that's understandable.
