...is fine on my ps3? I have a intel i7 2700k with on board intel hd 3000 graphics running power dvd 12.
 
Try different software first. Intel HD 3000 graphics was designed to decode High Definition video faster than old Intel graphics chipsets and processor power alone.

I once stumbled across a work around to get VLC media player to play Blu-ray discs via a downloadable plugin but can't seem to find it anymore.

Also, you could try trying various different CODEC packs which may or may not help.
